"So what am I looking at?"

The latest exhibition from the Beyond The Image Gallery collective doesn’t just invite you to look; it dares you to see.

Entitled "So what am I looking at?", this showcase is a refreshing, slightly cheeky nod to the internal monologue we’ve all had when standing before a piece of contemporary art.

Rather than providing easy answers, the featured artists have leaned into the ambiguity of the visual experience, creating a space where the viewer’s perspective is just as vital as the creator’s intent.

In an era of instant gratification and AI-generated clarity, "So what am I looking at?" celebrates the beauty of the unknown. It rewards the "slow look"—the act of standing still until the initial confusion gives way to a personal resonance.

"We wanted to bridge the gap between the artist’s 'why' and the viewer's 'what.' This show is about the magic that happens in the middle."

FLIGHT OF FANCY

A Photographic Exhibition by Darcie Moss-Thomas

Darcie Moss-Thomas is a twelve-year-old photographer and student at Hartlesmere School in Suffolk. Living in a county with a rich aviation history and busy airspace, Darcie developed a passion for military aircraft at an early age. What began as looking up at the sky from her back garden has transformed into a dedicated pursuit of capturing the raw power, speed, and sleek design of modern and historic warbirds.

Armed with her camera and an eye for sharp detail, Darcie spends her free time tracking flight paths, visiting airfields, and waiting for the perfect moment when machinery meets the sky. Flight of Fancy is her debut solo exhibition, showcasing a curated collection of her finest aviation photographs.

Artist Statement

"To most people, a military plane is just a loud noise in the sky. To me, it’s a work of art. I love the challenge of freezing a moment when a jet is moving at hundreds of miles an hour. You have to be fast, patient, and ready for anything.

With Flight of Fancy, I wanted to show these incredible machines from my perspective. Suffolk's skies are always alive with history and innovation, and through my lens, I want to bring people closer to the cockpit than they’ve ever been before." —
